Rhino-Orbito-Cerebral Mucormycosis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis is a rare, opportunistic and often fatal fungal infection usually occurring in immuno-compromised or diabetic patients. The treatment involves administration of Amphotericin B and surgical debridement. Due to its lethal nature, early recognition of the infection is essential. This paper reports a case of rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis, which developed in a...

متن کاملRhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis: a treatment dilemma.
A case of rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis is presented showing its aggressive nature and progression of disease. The typical clinical features, neuroimaging and histological findings are highlighted in this report. Amphotericin B and surgical debridement remain the mainstay of treatment. However, associated co-morbidities need to be addressed.
متن کاملA Fatal Outcome of Rhino-orbito-cerebral Mucormycosis Following Tooth Extraction: A Case Report
Rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis is an uncommon aggressive life-threatening opportunistic fungal infection that affects mainly the immunocompromised population with mortality rate up to 50%. Due to its aggressive nature, early detection and prompt management are of great importance for a good prognosis. Our report describes a fatal outcome of a case of rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis follo...
متن کاملRapidly Progressive Rhino-orbito-cerebral Mucormycosis Complicated with Unilateral Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion: A Case Report
Rhinocerebral mucormycosis is an acute fulminant opportunistic fungal infection usually seen in diabetic or immunocompromised patients. The fungi that cause mucormycosis inoculate the nasal mucosa and may spread to the paranasal sinuses, orbit, and brain. Our patient initially presented with mild ethmoid sinusitis. At that time, brain MRI and contrast-enhanced MR angiography were grossly normal...
